Chesapeake and Ohio Canal
Enjoy a mix of history, great food and natural beauty with a lazy cruise under a canopy of trees
Service Description
Route 1 Our trip starts in Maryland on the Historic Chesapeake and Ohio canal at the little town of Brunswick, 57 miles North along the Potomac River. There, we saddle up for a short 6-mile stint on the canal to the town of Harper’s Ferry, a quaint town of huge Civil War historic importance. There, you will walk over the Potomac river alongside the railway line and spend an hour taking in the many interests of this Virginia town. Thereafter, we continue our cruise up-river to the University town of Shepherds-town with it's many interesting homes, quaint downtown, and a stop for lunch. Re-fuelled, we head for home, back along the canal, taking time, if it’s hot, for a swim in the Potomac, or just a lazy cruise under the canopy of trees lining our route. Our trip is complete, but, don’t leave the area before visiting some of the many other attractions in the area. There are vineyards, breweries, a roadside creamery that makes delicious ice- cream, antique stores, and many historic towns and Civil War battlegrounds nearby.
